In 1935 Harry, Jack and Albert Warner constructed Building 81, one of the first buildings on the Warner Bros. lot and a beautiful example of the Spanish Revival style. Known as The Writers’ Building, it has had a glorious history having been home to such celebrated writers and film makers as William Faulkner, Delmer Daves, John Huston, Philip and Julius Epstein, Tennessee Williams, and Clint Eastwood. Over the decades, however, the building suffered from much
careless abuse and haphazard fixes and in the 1970s was the victim of a stylistically insensitive remodel/addition. Working from the original blueprints, Profeta Royalty set out to recapture the
original character of the exterior. Exposed plumbing and conduits were removed and the through-wall air-conditioning units were replaced by a central system. The main entry received new French doors surrounded by a precast stone arch and wrought iron detailing. A once forgotten second entry to the north now features a lushly landscaped patio and a trellis-covered stair. Inside, the newly created two-story lobby clad in walnut paneling and classic Batchelder tiles highlights this building’s historic charm.
